Home organisation tips for the new year
Looking to start your new year off on the right foot?
Feeling organised in your home is a sure way to improve your enjoyment of your home and reduce the daily stressload of locating items and keeping things tidy.
But where to start?

Whether you’ve just moved into your home, or have been living there for a while, we can all take some steps to getting more organised at home in 2022.
We caught up with Edel Beattie, AKA The Happy Organiser, to get her expert tips on how to start the new year feeling more organised.

If people are thinking about getting organised for the new year, do you have a room you’d recommend as the best place to start?
If you plan to start 2022 off with some healthy habits, set yourself up for success by decluttering and organising your bedroom. Good sleep is vital for us to function well and research shows that a cluttered room can reduce the quality of our sleep. I also believe that an organised wardrobe can improve so many daily tasks, from getting dressed to putting away clothes.

What are the benefits of organising your home at the start of the new year?
The saying, “Start as you mean to go on” comes to mind. Organising your home is an ongoing process, but the new year is a perfect time to start. Letting go of belongings you no longer need or use while organising each category in your home will create space in both your home and your mind. When your declutter and organise your home, life will feel easier and you will feel more in control of your home and habits. So this year, I really hope everyone has ”getting organised” as one of their new year’s resolutions.

What’s one simple thing people can do to feel more organised as they come into 2022?
The biggest step to becoming organised is first making a commitment and a plan. I recommend writing this down and setting clear goals for yourself. Whether you choose to book a professional organiser to help or work at your own pace, just knowing that you are taking positive steps towards taking action will make you feel more organised.
Anything else to add?
I just encourage everyone to start. If you begin in your bedroom, just focus on one category at a time, starting with clothes. You will reap the rewards very quickly and this will encourage you to keep going. Just remember, organising your home is a journey – it takes time so try and enjoy the process and be proud of yourself for doing it.
