In the pretty Kiama region, Gerringong is a short drive south from Kiama, 35 minutes from Wollongong and under two hours’ drive from Sydney. At the southern end of the beach is Ourie Pool, a rock pool constructed in the 1930s. Nearby are amenities and a wading pool for children. Another delightful swimming spot is Boat Harbour Rock Pool, near Cooke Park, which has barbecue facilities, picnic tables and a children’s playground.

Just south of Gerringong is Seven Mile Beach, where Land’s Edge Surf School offers lessons on how to ride a surfboard. For surf gear, browse Natural Necessity in town. Golfers will enjoy the ocean views and beautifully manicured greens on the 18-hole course at Gerringong Golf Club.

There are plenty of tasty things to do too, from quality restaurants to wine tasting at Crooked River Winery. Gerringong Bakery makes pies and pastries. Try the gourmet delights at The Schoolhouse, a historic schoolhouse, and enjoy cooking workshops at Buena Vista Farm. And check out the events calendar for high tea.
